Barges in Amsterdam

Posted by Chee Wei On August - 18 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

When I was in Amsterdam about a year ago, I stayed in one of the barges in one of the canals near the city centre of Amsterdam. It was quite an unique experience for me.

Here are some photos taken from the barge i stayed in.

Amsterdam Canals

This was taken at the ‘golden hour’ of the day, you have to just wait for the right time and you’ll get very colourful clouds and skies.

Chair on Amsterdam Barge

Got up pretty early on the next day as I was very excited and eager to visit the city. Waiting for the rest to get ready was rather boring so I took this shot from a very low angle.

Chair on Amsterdam Barge

Then, I got even more bored so I decided to align the chairs and took another few shots.
A tips
: always shoot away from the sun, the sky will always be more blue than shooting against the sun.

Barge in Amsterdam Canals

This is the barge I lived in during my stay in Amsterdam. Pretty cool eh? The rooms are ridiculously small and there are like 8-10 rooms on a single barge. Of course, there are toilets and bathrooms too.

Amsterdam Canals

Calm water gives the best reflection. Never forget to look for reflections during your trip.

Amsterdam Street

Nothing great here, its just one of the busy Amsterdam street.

Amsterdam Street

Unlike some European countries, shops and restaurants in Amsterdam do operates until mid night.

Teasers, Amsterdam

Teasers! This is where you get your ‘magic mushrooms’ and ‘space cakes’. For your information, those are drugs. It isn’t really legal in Amsterdam but its tolerated! So enjoy.

Cats can pose too

Posted by Chee Wei On August - 6 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

Picture paints a thousand words, so let me show you what I mean by that. Just take a look at the first picture below.

Santorini Cat

Sitting high up on the wall where you are able to see almost the entire town of Oia. Cats actually know how to enjoy a spectacular scenery.

Santorini Cat

Chill kitty! Chill! I am not a paparazzi, just a tourist who got excited seeing Greek Cats. Don’t you think they look different? Sharp long face? And their eyes too!

Santorini Cat

Not all cats are that unfriendly, at least not for this one. I was trying to take a paranomic view of the place, she gracefully ‘cat-walked’ towards me along the walls. Then, she sat there waiting for me to take her photos. I think pets can be part of the tourist attractions. What do you think?

Remember to thank them for posing because not all pets are kind enough to pose for you. Unless maybe they are attracted to you. (Not implying anything nor having any hidden meaning :P )

Dog in Santorini

Well, you won’t be lucky all the time. Sometimes, you’ll meet pets like these. I tried all sorts of ways and make all sorts of noises to get the dog’s attention. Yet the dog is more interested in getting some afternoon nap.

Oslo – One of the world’s most expensive city

Posted by Chee Wei On August - 3 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Oslo is rated one of the most expensive cities in the world. Here is a list of world’s most expensive cities. The price of a meal in Oslo is double the amount compared to London. I was quite surprised with that, but I am not too sure if they earn twice as much as London for someone with similar job scope and experience.

Fortress of Oslo

This is the fortress and castle of Oslo. Well that is because the fortress is just next to the castle and apparently they are still using it for the military. The castle is just located 15-20 minutes walk from the famous Aker Brygge street.

Sunset in Oslo

It was pretty amazing to see this. You might be asking what’s so great about that? The time I took this shot was at 12AM from the window of my hotel. The sun is still up eh?

Naked Statue in Oslo

Statue of naked humans can be seen throughout Oslo.

Naked Statue in Oslo

Just two statues? Wait till you see more photos of Vigeland Sculpture Park then you will definitely agree with me.

Naked Statue in Oslo

There are some statues of kids too. I think they might need to put some anti-bird spikes just so the statues can be free from bird’s shit.

Arker Brygge Shopping Centre

This is the Aker Brygge shopping centre. It is just right beside the pier.

Port in Oslo

This is the port for the water taxi which is about 5-10mins walk from Aker Brygge street. More photos coming up :)
