Opera House in Oslo

Posted by Chee Wei On July - 30 - 2009 1 COMMENT

It didn’t take us too long to get to our hotel from the National Theatre Station, with the help of friendly locals. The great thing in Oslo is that the locals speak good English having learned it in school.

Oslo City Centre

Oslo City Center, good weather, good food, friendly locals. As with most Scandinavian countries, the people here adopt a laid back lifestyle and can be seen chilling at the parks or cafes watching the world go by.

Oslo Bicycle

A day travel pass gives you access to trains, trams and some of the more unique forms of transportation such as the bus or boat.
If cycling is your cup of tea, you’re in luck for cycles galore in Oslo!

Oslo City Centre

I just love colours and couldn’t resist capturing this awesome building.

Oslo Street

Its green! Let’s cross…oh wait..that’s for cars!

Oslo Opera House

This is the Opera House of Oslo, beside the coast. These stairs are actually on the roof of the Opera House. A slip on the way down could send one tumbling into the water!

Oslo Opera House

This is the interior of the Opera House, uniquely constructed with wood. Maybe it has something to do with the acoustics.

Another view of  the roof top of the Opera House. The only way up is through the slope.

This is how to make full use of  glass windows. If you look straight into the window, your reflection looks back at you. However, if you look from a side angle, you get a duplicate reflection which is a pretty cool effect! Needless to say, we had some fun with these ourselves! :)

Munich isn’t just a city of steel and concrete. Here’s why…

Tulips in Marienplatz, Munich

Tulips just remind me of my Amsterdam trip to the world’s largest flower garden. They are just amazing eh…

She just couldn’t resist having a photo with these beautiful tulips. In fact, more than one photo :)

Marienplatz, Munich

After checking into our hotel, we headed straight to the central of Munich, Marienplatz. The metro (underground train) is a little different from London’s Tube.

Underground train, Metro, Munich

The platforms are bigger and the trains are slightly wider. However, the train coaches do look quite old.
Hopping of at the Marienplatz station gets you to the heart of Munich city.

This is the Fish Fountain (Fischbrunnen) designed by Konrad Knoll in 1864 which is located next to the Town Hall.

Some gargoyle in the New Town Hall.

Door of Marienplatz, Munich

Everything looks medieval here, even the door as well.

Georg Joseph Hauberrisser is the guy who built the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) between 1867 and 1909.

Deployed my tripod. One… two… three… smile….!

Frauenkirche, Munich

Standing tall is the Frauenkirche which means “Church of Our Lady”.
Frauenkirche, Munich

This church was built in 1468 by Duke Sigismund. However, the green domes at the top of the tower were added in 1525.

Some buildings around the Frauenkirche. Very green indeed.

Ever wonder how you could make a difference? Sponsor a child today at World Vision. By just donating a small amount, you could make a big difference in their lives.

Ignorance is not bliss. There are many children out there who don’t even have the basic necessities of life. Electricity is Greek to them when safe drinking water is not readily available. Many of these kids never make it beyond 5 years of age due to diseases, hunger and poverty.
You could be the difference in their lives. If you choose to sponsor a child, you’ll be constantly updated about their needs and progress, also you’ll receive an annual progress report of the child you sponsored (below).

WorldVision - Annual Progress Report 2009

In the annual report, you’ll get a recent photo of the child, her health status, her living conditions, her progress in school, etc.

By now, we should be enjoying the sunny weather and the amazing view in Madeira. In case you are wondering which country Madeira belongs to or where actually Madeira is?

Here you are, a satellite view from google map, quite handy eh :)

Madeira

The marker with the label ‘A’ is Madeira. On the far left is America, bottom right is Africa, UK and Europe is on the top right corner. You might need a microscope to see it. haha. So click here to see Madeira on google map.
Anyway, will update more photos on Madeira when I’m back :)
