Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park

Posted by Chee Wei On January - 11 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

It feels as though I just updated my blog like few days ago and when I check my previous post, it was like more than a week! Geez. Anyway, here are some photos of the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park, London.

I been to the park for about 3 times and finally I got the right sunset lighting I wanted. The sun sets about 4pm ish at that time. Also, just so you know, it was freezing cold about subzero, I was with my leather gloves (if you still want your fingers functioning properly after the shoot) and armed with 3 layers of top and scarf.

I love the blueish sun set lighting. I find it very soothing.

Leafless tree is what you gonna see everywhere during winter.

Garlic house, just right under a tree. I think the lighting looks awesome.

This is another stall selling bratwurst (German Hotdog). These stalls just look cool.

A windmill with a snowman on the roof which I believe is from Holland. I think the couple were about to kiss. Sorry didn’t mean to disturb :P

You definitely should expect to see a carousel in a fun fair! Anyway, more Hyde Park photos soon.

Need to get going now, as I am heading back to Malaysia this week. See you guys!

Coincidence leads to Little India

Posted by Chee Wei On November - 12 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

I have heard many people saying that Singapore is a very small place and you could easily bump into your friends. I never quite believe that because its not even easy to meet any of my friends around KL. That’s not until I stumble into Eunice from Travelerfolio.com at Bugis Junction. It was totally a coincidence because I was going to meet my friend there.

Anyway, I really have to thank her for bringing me around Singapore on the following day. Highly recommended tour guide. haha.

So, our first destination was Little India because she suggested that there were more things to see due to Deepavali Festival. When we got out from the MRT station, I could never believe that I was in Singapore. The streets are full of Indian ethnics and its really very crowded!

Little India - Deepavali

You could easily differentiate a tourist from a local.

Little India - Deepavali

It was a gloomy evening and there wasn’t sufficient lights to make the photos more vivid.

Little India - Deepavali

This is one of the street in Little India.

Little India - Deepavali

Fruits and vegetables are everywhere along this street.

Little India - Deepavali

The whole area of Little India was decorated with lights, it should be even better if I were to stay on.

Little India - Deepavali

The main street of Little India is always busy. Lots of people and vehicles.

Little India - Deepavali

You definitely need to wait for the lights to cross this busy street.

Little India - Deepavali

After Little India, we went to Boat Quay for some food and then we took some photos (photos are located here) before calling it a day.

Thanks again Eunice for bringing me around :-)

I don’t think you can see it from here but she has got very long eyelashes.

Unsatisfied with what he has…

So he tried on someone else’s heels. Managed to walk quite a distance without falling.

She actually came up to me and posed for the camera.

I think this is one of the best shot I have taken during the event. The daughter was showing her mother what she was doing while Megan looked on (behind).

Here are some more photos of the Cans Festival held in Leake Street, London. There are still a lot more photos waiting to be posted, so it should take awhile before I am able to post everything.

So here is a weird tree in the middle of a car bonnet.

Let’s go closer to see what’s on the tree. CCTV?!

Do you think the tree grows from there or was it planted by the artist?

Stencil Arts

Here are a few more stencil arts by some amazing artists at the Cans Festival on Leake Street last weekend.

This one looks like some Japanese anime character. Looks pretty cute though.

The Cans Festival - Girl

Its kind of messy here, there is a skeleton graffiti, a roman statue, a construction in progress sign and furniture.

I am sure most of you can draw this too. The stick man society!

Must be out of red paint :)

The cans festival which is a street party of stencil art that was held along Leake Street. That is just 3 minutes walk from London Eye. Am sure you guys would know this famous landmark.

So when we arrived at the entrance of Leake Street we saw thousands of people queuing.
It took us more than half an hour to get into the place.

Long queue to get into the stencil art party

For all artists who wish to leave your markings or signatures on the wall you have to register first. For your information, they are allowed to paint in the designated area only, anything outside the area will be prosecuted.

Receiption Area - Register to paint

Fancy any artists? Get them to paint on your shirt! Watch it, he might ended up having a tattoo!

So let’s continue from my previous Flora London Marathon post.

A frog man. His face is no longer green after the rain. He should have used weather proof paint.

Its so crowded here. Some tube stations (underground) only allow passengers to exit the station only to maintain a one-way traffic system in order to control the crowd.

On 13th April 2008, there were about 35 thousands people competed in the Flora London Marathon and more than 34 thousands finished the race which makes it the third largest London Marathon.

Have a look at the leader board if you are interested to know how your friends did in the marathon.

This was taken from the London Bridge.

Revisiting Newcastle upon Tyne

Posted by Chee Wei On April - 9 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

I will be visiting Newcastle again next weekend which is on the 19th of April just for the weekend. I will be taking a train to Newcastle. The journey is slightly over 3 hours and cost me lightly over £50 for the return tickets (cheapest I can get for weekends).

I guess it has been quite awhile since I last visited Newcastle. You might ask why Newcastle… again? Well, there are lots of memories in Newcastle itself from happy moments to unforgettable ones.

I shall start from the reason why I was in Newcastle. I was there for my honours degree in Computing Science. That was like a couple of years back. Makes me feel older now :( Perhaps wiser too :D

So, here I am with Stuart and Susan (a shot taken inside the compound of University of newcastle upon Tyne which now known as University of Newcastle).
Stuart is my dad’s lecturer in University of Coventry many many years back and Susan is his beloved wife. Could you imagine my dad was still in touch with his lecturer and now its my turn! What about my kids? :P

Stuart, Susan & me

Here are some of me and my friends, mostly of us are from the software field, twinning from Taylors College, Malaysia. Whereas, Saik Yuan (the girl holding few bouquet of flowers, in fact hugging) is the only Chemical Engineering grad in our group.

Me & Friends who graduated on the same day

After you have graduated, obviously you will hope that you could reach higher… one day..some day…or maybe never?
So, we decided to give it a try by jumping higher (some say that might bright us luck in our job hunting LOL)… and unfortunately Patrick came in and interrupt us.
*So far none of us are unemployed* haha

Trying to reach higher by jumping

So after paying so much for my degree in the UK and did some jumps on the land of British, all I got was a piece of paper. Wow… this piece of thin paper cost me so much I guess I have to frame it up like Mona Lisa’s painting.

I guess that’s enough about my graduation story for now. I’ll blog more about that in the future post.

So, what’s in Newcastle? There are nice sceneries, great night life, the locals in Newcastle use Geordie accent(wanna learn more about Geordie? Try the English to Geordie translator). Its basically a mixture of Scottish and English accent.

Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

This is the Millennium Bridge of Newcastle. One of the main attractions too.
Maybe you can try to search for some youtube videos to see how this bridge tilts!
Its quite cool.

Millennium Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne

So what happens when it comes to our festive seasons?
Well, being abroad its quite hard to have the holidays and festivals that you used to have in your own country. For example, Chinese New Year, Mid Autumn Festival, Hari Raya, etc.
So what can you do?

Gather with a few friends and have a potluck dinner, pub crawl, get yourself drunk, basically anything you can think of.

So here we go… Chinese New Year 2007, the year of pig (notice the couple pigs on the wall?)
Everyone is supposed to bring or cook something.

Chinese New Year 07

I cooked braised pork belly with yam (“wu tao kao yuk” in Cantonese). The outcome was quite alright I think =P That was my first time cooking that dish after my mom taught me :)

Chinese New Year 07

That’s it for now, ain’t those wonderful memories? So I’ll be going back there again to maybe meet up some friends and of course shoot more photos. Enjoy!
